Several piles at East Arm Wharf in Darwin were damaged and originally coated with polyethylene (PE). This caused major problems during pile driving as the pile driver damaged the PE coating.

At first these piles were repaired with heat shrink sleeves, but these failed over time and we were invited by Darwin Ports to come up with a repair procedure for the piles. Our solution was the Denso SeaShield 2000FD™ jacket system.  The heat shrink sleeves were removed and the damaged sections cut back to reveal any corrosion. Once this was identified, it was cleaned up using a Bristle Blaster. Thereafter, Denso SeaShield™ primer was applied and multiple layers of SeaShield™ Marine Piling Tape was placed over the damaged area.

Following this the insides of the SeaShield 2000FD™ jackets were lined with SeaShield™ primer and the SeaShield 2000FD™ jackets were installed.  The project was completed within the planned time frame and the client is extremely happy with the result.
