Project Details

The selected contractor was looking to conduct remedial works on approximately 90 linear metres of corroding steel water main and support brackets running underneath a wharf structure in Port Kembla.

A pipe wrap encapsulation system was required and the Denso Petrolatum Tape system was specified to provide long term protection to the irregular shaped brackets, as well as for its ease of application on the pipe, flanges and bends under the wharf.

The 375mm DIA water main and brackets were initially high pressure water blasted with the inclusion of Holdtight® 102 to remove salt contamination, and then mechanically cleaned prior to the application of Denso petrolatum primer, Denso profiling mastic and spirally wrapped Denso petrolatum tape.

An outerwrap of Denso PVC SA tape was also spirally applied to provide the underlying components’ mechanical protection.

Both contractor and asset owner were very pleased with the coating applied and have the comfort in knowing the water mains will have corrosion protection for many years ahead.
